Oscars 2012: Lizzie’s Hit & Misses

Monday, March 5th, 2012

The Oscars is always a chance for designers to showcase their best frocks. Celebrities want to look their best,  however it seems that their stylists do sometimes get it wrong. A popular choice this year was a cream / white shade that many celebrities opted for. Here we will go over what Lizzie thought were great choices, and others who didn’t quite get it right.

Winners:

Mills Jokovitz -gorgeous, understated, sparkly (PHOTO:WENN)

Octavia Spencer; great for her shape and beautiful understated glamour

Jenifer Lopez; another great dress showing off her brilliant figure (Photo: Getty via Popsugar)

Gwyneth Paltrow; understated yet glamorous (Photo: Getty via Popsugar)

Angelina Jolie, in the ‘leg’ dress; always looks amazing by choosing plain colours but changing her hair and attitude depending on the mood helps her make a statement. This time she’s vamping it up! (Photo: Via ecorazzi)

Maryl Streep; very luxurious and glam, a bit less fabric would have been nicer but still a show stopper! (Photo: Getty via Glamour)

Cameron Diaz; great except the bikini suntan lines! (Photo via Fashion Latest)

Melissa McCarth; great choice for the fuller figured actress from Bridemaids. (Photo via Pop on the Pop)

Glenn Close; such an unusual colour to see on the red carpet and a softer alternative to black. (Photo: Paper Mag)

Kirsten Wiig; super feminine (photo via Glamour)

Losers:

Jessica Chastain, from the range of dresses she would’ve had access to, think she could’ve found one to enhance her figure better! (Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty via InStyle)

Emma Stone; lovely colour but the neck bow too overpowering. (Photo: via Zimbio)

Viola Davis – awful cleavage. Should never have choosen that neckline. (Photo: Coco Perez)

Michelle Williams; great dress, but totally wrong colour for her. Way too strong and over powering. (Photo: IBT)

Sandra Bullock lovely in theory, but looks like she’s in 2 sizes too big on top! (Photo: Getty via SkyLiving)

Penelope Cruz how can someone so gorgeous manage to look so frumpy!! Leave the full skirts to the older ladies -if anyone!  (Photo: via Yahoo)

Natalie Portman was also a bit on the frumpy side! Not her best look. (Photo: OMG Yahoo)

Katie Holmes; dress is totally the wrong size and looks like its sliding down! (Photo: Cocoperez)

Rooney Mara; awful choice for a flat chest, emphasising it not camouflaging! (Photo: Skyliving)

However, these are just my ideas, what are your opinions? Surely when these woman have access to any dress they want they should be able to get it right? Either they need to get a new stylsit, or not be afraid to say no to their current ones!

SS12 Trend: Full Skirts

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

One of the more feminine spring trends that we saw over the catwalks was the full skirt. This was apparent on several catwalks including D&G, Moschino and Prada, the full skirt can be part of a dress or worn as an individual skirt with separate top. It is a great item for the warmer months if you’re not keen on showing too much leg, the longer, fuller skirt can have great impact without being too revealing.

You could team full skirts with the floral trend and have a combination look, or if the fullness of the skirt is statement enough, then go for a plainer skirt and team with a delicate blouse or plain tank top for a more casual look.

Don’t be afraid to try full skirts, they can suit all so long as you find the right length that suits you. Pairing the skirt with simple ballet pumps can help soften the look or pair with classic court shoes to enhance your legs.

Here are some of my high street favourites:

This Oasis skirt via ASOS would be a great piece to add to your working wardrobe, or a comfortable item to wear out shopping! £45

Carven via Net-a-porter £335 – this is a lovely day / evening dress that could be dressed up or down to suit multiple occasions.

By Zoe via John Lewis £160 – great to wear to the races or a summer garden party – a hair piece would compliment this dress perfectly.

SS12 PRINT TREND: PAISLEY PRINT

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Paisley prints will be everywhere by summer and I cant wait. The designers have taken this Indian heritage print and transformed the print into great wearable pieces for the catwalk.

This print can be worn in many ways and can really transform looks and update your wardrobe for summer.

Jill Sander, has some key Spring/Summer looks on the catwalk and has used the print head to toe as well as teamed with shorts and skirts.

Pencil skirts will also be a strong look again this season, a great way to show off your feminine curves!

Colour blocking is also still on trend and bold colours will still be around, this dress by Etro £625 is the perfect mix of print and colour perfect for summer teamed with sandals.

The paisley print is so wearable and can be easily added to existing items in your wardrobe. This dress form Reiss £106 in the sale still! Is a gorgeous dress and perfect for the in-between season.

The print trend is rapidly changing all the time from floral to bird prints, but I think the paisley print is such a wearable design. A paisley dress will be the key item to be wearing and will look chic for summer teamed with wedges or sandals!

Trends are always changing, but getting a couple of pieces to add to your wardrobe will be a great way to freshen up your look for summer.  Keep following our Facebook and Twitter for style tips and fashion news!
