Spring / Summer 12 Trend: Houndstooth

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

This is an old favourite, a print that was big in the 80s is making a comeback for this season.

It was seen on the catwalks in an array of colours with different designers taking different approaches to the design to give it a new look and feel for the consumers of today.

This dress is from Neil Barrett’s SS12 collection, and has spread out the print to give houndstooth a younger feel to it.

Peter Som’s jacket is a bright and vibrant take on the houndstooth trend.

Stella McCartney’s trousers from her SS12 collection have a more traditional take on the print, but the sharp tailoring and shape of the trousers brings it right up to date.

The above examples illustrate how versatile the print can be, worn for different occasions, have low and high impact by coming in different shapes and sizes.

For some this may be about re-visiting old haunts, if you were a houndstooth wearer the first time round, be sure to dig out your old items as it could be worn today and still be on trend. However if you need some ideas of where to buy your houndstooth items today then have a look at a few of our favourite high street examples:

This classic pencil skirt is great for work, and at only £24.50 – a cheap buy to help bring your wardrobe up to date. (ASOS)

These J brand jeans are perfect if you haven’t worn houndstooth before and want to introduce it subtly. The faded print on the trousers are great way to be on trend but also easy way to pair it with other products. (My-Wardrobe £270)

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Pleats in every form our a big trend for Spring and the shops are already hot on this.

A great way to add texture to your wardrobe. Feminine and floaty pleats are a big hit for Spring. Weather a dress, skirt or pleated trousers there is a style to suit everyone.

Below from left to right: Chloé, Lanvin, Akris, Dior are all showcasing the pleat on the catwalk.

Chloé without a doubt showed varied styles in pleats and used soft natural tones, great designs to be inspired by.

For more colour, designer Christian Siriano really had some show stopping designs and was rocking the colour blocking trend.

Which ever is your most loved style there are plenty of designs on the high street to choose from, This summer with so many trends to look at, I think the pleat is one of the most wearable ones. Below a gorgeous pleated dress from Oasis £65, this dress is fitted at the waist and will create a nice silhouette. Team with wedges for summer. Also a hit with our previous post on candy colours for Spring!

Another great item to follow this trend with is this pleated skirt from Topshop £49. Looks great with a skinny belt.
